This last week Dwell Studio put together a little contest. The challenge was to create a pin board on Pinterest that captured your ideal modern Thanksgiving scene. I thought it would be fun to put one together - you can see mine here.
What are your Thanksgiving plans? We are staying home and spending the day as a little family of three in this big new city. Today, we gathered some fun ingrediants to use on some new recipes (including the butternut squash tart above). We are going to buck the traditional turkey and sweet potatoes this year and make some new creations. I really hope everything turns out alright. Hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving with loved ones and eats all their favorite foods!
I have been busy. Busy is actually an understatement. Between moving, taking care of my little man cub and putting a new house together (we started out with very little - not much can come with you when you move from Hawaii) I have not had a ton of time to blog, or even relax. I'm feeling a little burnt out. Lucky for me, I am working on a fun little project for someone I like, who wrote a pretty cool book. The book talks about conent and events and people pretty dear to my heart so I am honored that this person chose me to work with. Also, I am going home to Portland in a few weeks and I couldn't be happier about it! Henry has never been so I am pretty thrilled to show him around. I also have a pretty exciting announcement about my visit to Portland that I will be sharing soon! Until next time (when I find myself with 5 minutes to spare for the blogging world)....
PS - How do you handle stress? I used to be a cryer. I got mad - I cried. I got flustered - I cried. Now I just get really angry! HAHA, what is up with that? Must be the mamma bear in me. But seriously, how do you cope with life's little stresses?
I have a very exciting new project that I have been working on. I can't wait to share it with you! But in the mean time here is a look at the mood board. Also!!- We are slowly but surely getting settled in our new little home here in San Diego. I am starting to feel like myself again. It's funny how big changes can really throw you off balance!
I hope everyone out there is having a wonderful Friday night. It is 8:30 PM here and I am just wrapping up for the evening. This week was a doozey! Here I come weekend! Here I come! At least I get to work on fun stuff - I mean take a look at that there mood board! It has been a fun project indeed! I will share more details when it goes live. For now, I am off to kiss my boyfriend (and by boyfriend I mean that guy I am married to) and snuggle my baby (who now smells like lavender and sweet dreams thanks to that very boyfriend I just mentioned). But just before you go envying my life (I mean it really is great and everything) you must know that there was a brief moment today where I found myself sobbing on the floor like a real baby because I may (or may not) be moving to Oklahoma. We are for sure moving away from our island home but exactly where is still undetermined. We think we have it nailed down and then something changes or some shiny new job presents itself. Big changes can seem like massive scary dark holes to me sometimes. And moving away from my home makes me want to run screaming into the ocean with all of my clothes on and yell at everyone on the shore that I am never never never getting out again! and then maybe mooning them for good measure! :)
I recently teamed up with photographer Natalie Norton for a little brand re-fresh. It was a fun little project to work on and it is always inspiring to work with beautiful photography. Here is a little sneak-peek at the board we put together. Can't wait to see the real deal put together live on her blog!
P.S. Working from home with a babe is way harder than I thought it would be. Please don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining or anything! I love what I do and I LOVE Henry. I just think I was a little naive about how tricky/difficult/challenging being a mom could be. I was recently asked by another mom (who from an outside perspective thought I had it all figured out), "How do you have time for it all"!? So, I guess I just wanted to admit that I don't really have it all put together just yet but, I am learning! I plan on writing a Two Cent Tuesday about working from home and being a mom but the truth is I am no expert. I'm waiting till I can scour the internet for some other good sources of information to go with my humble opinion/experience. Moms of the internet - If you have any advice for readers please share! Until then I will just say this - I have had to say the big two letter word we all hate to say - NO - to more people than I thought I would have to. But, hey, if that is what is best for Henry and myself that is what I gotta do! Right?! Right.
You can find my guest post on what to wear and what to give this wedding season over at Dotcoms For Moms.
I know it is wedding season when I start getting an absurd amount of requests for wedding invitation designs. The other day I caught myself complaining to my mom about how many wedding invitations I had on my Teux Deux list and she laughed and said, "but you LOOOOVE doing that!" and I just simply had to agree! I do love doing it. I love weddings and I love LOVE! I also started a wedding inspiration pin board on Pinterest for all my friends out there about to tie the knot. Follow along if you like!
PS - I wish I could announce to everyone that I found a cure for Henry's non sleeping schedule, but unfortunately I can't. I think we have made progress and then the next night/day are just as terrible as before. I am so glad I have a mother who lovingly listens to my problems, commiserates with me and then reassures me that things will get better. I don't know that there really is "an answer" to Henry's sleeping problem but rather we will find out what works for Henry and what doesn't. All kids are different and I am learning that so well right now. Thank you to everyone who left kind and helpful comments on my last post. It really means a lot to me to know that people care and know what I am going through.
I don't know about you but I am getting pretty excited for Easter Sunday. I used to live with my two best girlfriends out here and every Easter Sunday we would wake up super early and drag everyone we could out to the beach before the sun came up. As the sun came up over the big beautiful ocean we would read the story of Christ's death and resurrection. Then we would all go back to our house for scones. Those are some of my favorite memories. I hope to carry on the tradition this Sunday. I would love to hear what your Easter tradition is!
It's official! We are officially moving in June, although we are not 100% sure where we are going yet we have a pretty good idea. And I have a pretty good feeling that we will at least live in a 2 bedroom place (we share our single room with Henry right now, which has been awesome but a little crowded). I just can't wait to decorate this little one's room. Check out a few more of my picks for his room over on Dotcoms for Moms.
