Steel City Pops / Dallas

This summer is really starting to get... well... hot. With heat in the hundreds everyday this week we are running out of ways to stay cool. And I am totally starting to lose my marbles. We took the boys to Steel City Pops on lower Greenville this week to get a cold, sweet treat. Henry loved it and got it everywhere. Of course. Best way to eat a popsicle. Unless, you order chocolate and are wearing white shorts... then it kinda just looks like you had a terrible accident. As was the case with me. Blueberry Basil, Lemonade, and Cherry Sour Cream are my favorite flavors so far.

Anyway, we are trying our best to enjoy the sun while it is blazing. I am not a big fan of cold and winter so I try not to complain when it gets hot. No matter how hot it gets. Popsicles, swimming pools, big floppy hats and more popsicles. That is my plan for getting through the summer while retaining at least a couple of my remaining marbles. And just in case you are worried that I give my kids too much sugar, I will also let you know that I also let them watch a movie (or 2) in the afternoon (everyday) while the sun is at it's worst. That's how we do. That's how we get by. Summa time! and the living is easy... yeah.

Chicken Scratch // Eating Dallas

One of our favorite places to eat in Dallas is Chicken Scratch. We like to take any visitors we get there to try their amazing chicken and waffles. It is always a nice place to go with kids too because it has a little outdoor play area where kids can climb on tires, and hang on monkey bars and throw gravel at each other. The play area isn't terribly big but it is enough space to let your kid act like a kid and not worry too much about them getting hurt or getting in anyone's way. Right next door is The Foundry where you can get strong drinks. The Foundry and Chicken Scratch open up to the same seating area with large couches, a stage, and huge picnic tables. In the summer they have large fans blowing and big umbrellas up to keep you cool, in the winter - wear a coat. This is a place I highly recommend trying if you are ever in Dallas. Happy Friday!

Eating Dallas

I started a new feed on Instagram called #eatingdallas. If you are in the Metroplex and you happen to be eating something really tasty share it with the rest of us! I've said it before and I'll say it again - I am here for the food. "Here" being pretty much wherever I am. I love eating out and trying new restaurants! So, let me know where and what is the best in Dallas! I plan on periodically doing some instagram mash ups of people's photos as they start to tag them.

Also - I just can't not say anything on my blog about this last Friday's tragedy. It's got me in a real funk. I know I need to continue to look for the beauty in the world and not give in to despair but that really made my heart hurt. Something that I learned from my best friend after she lost her baby to Cystic Fibrosis is that you cannot compare grief. While this situation is definitely very horrible and more visible than a lot of other situations - everyone is fighting a hard battle and we need to remember to be kind to others. Love. Love and forgive as much as we can. That is where the beauty is. And that is how we can do our small part to help in the healing process after such sadness. That is what I will be working on this week. More than I'd like to admit I need to forgive and forget and let the tiny beautiful things that life has to offer shine. And just love.
